Courses - First Aid at Work First Aid at Work [FAW] courses for looking after employees are run to a specific syllabus set by the Health and Safety Executive. They register selected companies to run the courses and monitor the training to ensure standards are met. Current FAW courses There are new regulations and recommendations as of 1st October 2009. Under the new regulations the 4 day course has been reduced to 3 days, still with the 2 day Re-qualification course every 3 years. Also new is a one day Emergency First Aid at Work [EFAW] suited to lower risk workplaces. Due to research showing that 3 years may be too long to maintain their basic skills, HSE now strongly recommends companies to consider annual 1/2 day Refresher in between the courses for their First Aiders. Where there are specific needs in the workplace then additional training may be needed extending the course, or as stand-alone courses.
